Food Insecurity and Maternal Health project From
March till May 2025





During the period of implementation,
Royal Women Health and Right Initiative (RWHARI) successfully executed the Food
Insecurity and Maternal Health Project in Lagos, targeting female sex workers
(FSW) of reproductive age. This iniThe initiative, funded by Global Health
Promise America, addressed a critical gap in existing research, focusing on the
mortality causes among FSWs, particularly in low- and middle-income countries
where vital statistics are often incomplete.

Recognizing the profound impact of
maternal health on FSW mortality rates, RWHARI prioritized the provision of
maternal health care support to seven (7) pregnant FSWs, Child health care for
one (1) stranded and sick baby alongside addressing food insecurity amongst
three (3) household of FSW in Agege and ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos state. This
multifaceted approach aimed to alleviate the health risks faced by FSWs and
their children, ultimately contributing to the reduction of mortality rates
within this vulnerable population.

Additionally, the initiative extended
beyond mere sustenance, offering accommodation to one homeless pregnant
teenager.

Through strategic partnerships and
targeted interventions, RWHARI’s Food Insecurity and Maternal Health Project
not only addressed immediate nutritional needs but also tackled broader health
challenges faced by FSWs and their families. These efforts underscore the
organization’s commitment to promoting the well-being and rights of
marginalized communities, contributing to the overarching goal of reducing
mortality rates among FSWs and ensuring a healthier future for all.

The maternal
health project is a program which looks after the well-being of Female Sex
Workers and their children on issues regarding their health and feeding.
